History Repeats Itself

During Classic Car Week, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is reserved for three days of historic automobile racing while the rest of California’s Monterey Peninsula hosts a cornucopia of indulgent events for car lovers of every kind. This morning, before practice got underway for 500 cars entered in weekend racing at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion, a magical thing happened in the soft sunshine at the track, and it drove home—no pun intended—the reason this world-class race circuit exists.

Another Chapter Closes

Make no mistake about it.After three days of competition at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion, there were awards to be won, but they were not necessarily bestowed upon the actual winners in 16 different classes that took to the straights, curves, hairpin turns and challenging drops of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.In fact, Rolex Awards of Excellence were awarded in each race category to individual drivers who were determined by an independent panel to be “most deserving,” and the event’s highest “Spirit of Monterey” honor, which is coupled with the awarding of a specially engraved 18k stain

Savoring the Then and Now

For thousands of historic car racing fans at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion, Saturday was the day to snag an autograph from Sir Jackie Stewart, and, if particularly lucky, also catch a glimpse of other driving legends mingling with the crowds.  Sir Jackie, the British former Formula 1 driver from Scotland who has won three World Championships, participated in the event as a Rolex Testimonee and special guest, while other motor sports luminaries came with no official agenda, just one of relishing the best moments that today’s activities at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca had to offer.
