Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced it has
extended its naming rights agreement for Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca with the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey
Peninsula (SCRAMP) for another five years. The agreement was
ratified by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors and extends
the two organizations’ relationship, which began in 2001, through
2016. The world-famous Monterey, Calif., facility is home to one
of the finest natural road-racing courses in the world, and has
been a mainstay of professional auto and motorcycle racing since
1957.
Kathryn Hayworth plans to be a fixture in the lobby of the
Embassy Suites the next two weekends. She’ll be registering
racing teams Thursday through Sunday as they check in at the
Seaside hotel for the American Le Mans Monterey (May 11-12) and
Ferrari Racing Days (May 18-20), both of which will be held at
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
When the American Le Mans Series opens Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca’s 2012 season this May, volunteers will arrive at the track
long before spectators fill the stands.

In the midst of National Bike Month, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is
hosting its popular Twilight Cycling event May 9.
Twilight Cycling, presented by Rabobank, allows bicyclists of all
levels of ability to experience the 11-turn, 2.238-mile race
track that is normally reserved for high-speed cars and
motorcycles. The ride will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Helmets are
required and the cost is $10 per rider.
The race track that is set amidst the rolling hills of Monterey
County wine country and adjacent to the fertile fields of the
Salinas Valley has added to its gourmet partnerships with
Yancey’s Fancy, a New York-based gourmet cheese maker.
The American Le Mans Monterey, presented by Patrón is providing
an opportunity for VW car owners/clubs to unite and join in on
the fun and racing action May 11-12.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s VW Car Corral experience includes a
two-day general admission and paddock ticket with open grandstand
seating, one souvenir program and preferred parking with other

but the American Le Mans Series is green year-round and it brings

view, the official poster art of the 2012 Rolex Monterey
Motorsports Reunion was unveiled today at the Toyota Grand Prix
of Long Beach.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca CEO/general manager Gill Campbell and
the race track’s official artist, Bill Patterson, were on hand
for the reveal which took place in front a crowd of race
enthusiasts and motorsports journalists.
Shelby Cobra is this year’s featured marque and is a name that
evokes images of muscle, brute power and American ingenuity. This
year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, August 17-19 at Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca, is expected to be the largest 50th
anniversary celebration of the esteemed marque.
“The Cobra represents more than a car. It represents an era, the
best of American can-do ingenuity and bench top engineering. It’s
the perfect marriage of brawn and brains and an unapologetic
demand to win,” said Bill Patterson. “It launched a copy cat war
that continues unabated 50 years on, and inspires a generation of

This year’s poster captures the Shelby Cobra as it crests The
Corkscrew, the signature turn of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and

that will be sold exclusively through the Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca souvenir store.
A highlight of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, which will
include 550 of the finest authentic, period-correct, sports cars
in the world in 17 race groups, is bound to be the dedicated race
of 45 authentic Shelby 289 and 427 Cobras. Their thunderous
engines will surely turn heads as the green flag waves and they
power past the start line.
In addition to the bustling race paddock filled with pre- and
post-war cars, visitors can stroll among hundreds of classics in
the Yamaha Marketplace and adjacent car corrals. While Shelby
Cobras will be taking center stage in the race paddock and car
corral (they are, after all, the most replicated cars of all
time), there will be car corrals for nearly every marque,

As Ferraris challenge the race track May 18-20 for Ferrari Racing

them in the paddock with the new Ferrari Car Corral.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s Car Corral experience includes two
three-day general admission and paddock tickets with open
grandstand seating, two souvenir programs and exclusive premium
parking in the paddock with other Ferraris, all for just $75.

Elena Myers claims second career AMA victory, first female winner
at Daytona.
Elena Myers, who rode Suzuki’s GSV-R bike on the eve of last
year’s Indianapolis Grand Prix, took another small step towards
her dream of becoming the first female MotoGP rider by making
history at Daytona.
“Any girl in MotoGP would be good, but I hope I’m the first,”
said Myers after the Indianapolis appearance. “That’s my goal,
and I’m trying hard every day to get there.”
Dempsey Racing principals and co-drivers Patrick Dempsey and Joe
Foster confirmed today the team’s entry into the American Le Mans
Series (ALMS) P2 division with a partial schedule of races this
year, fulltime competition in future seasons, and a return to the
24 Hours of Le Mans, possibly as soon as 2013.
At its 49th annual Awards Dinner March 7 at the Blackhawk Auto
Museum in Danville, Ca. the Motor Sports Press Association
honored Mike and Kathy Hayworth with the Outstanding Contribution
to Motorsports Award.
The Strider Adventure Zone will return to family friendly Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca during the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix on July
27 to 29. For budding young cyclists who love having fun with a
competitive edge, Strider Adventure Zone will host the Strider
Cup race on Sunday, July 29.
Strider makes no-pedal bikes that help toddlers learn balance and
coordination before pedaling, which develops confidence and bike
handling skills. Children from 18 months to five years of age
will have a chance to experience riding at the Strider Adventure
Zone.

Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) volunteer barbecue
to the well-respected race car driver he is today, Townsend Bell,
will be a welcome sight as he returns to his home track at the

Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies were the
star guests this afternoon for the ‘First Ever’ International
MotoXpo Show in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The MotoGP riders
arrived in Malaysia early for the second of the two Sepang tests
to attend the event as guests of Hong Leong Yamaha Motor.
MONTEREY, Calif., February 23, 2012 – Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
kicks off its 55th season with the American Le Mans Monterey,
presented by Patrón, an exhilarating six hour endurance race, May
11-12.
Featuring multiple classes of high-tech sports cars competing
together, the American Le Mans Series sees constant passing and
on-track battles throughout each race. The six hour endurance
race takes competitors from daylight, to dusk and into the
darkness, pushing drivers’ and crews’ mental and physical
abilities.
The 2011 American Le Mans Series Championship was secured, with
one race to go, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last fall by Dyson
Racing who won the LMP1 Drivers and Team Championships. At that
same race Mazda won the Engine Manufacturer title and Dunlop the
Tire Championship. Dyson Racing wrapped up the Michelin Green X
Challenge championship for the year at the season-ending Petit Le
Mans.
A notable new entry to the 2012 American Le Mans Series is Lotus
Alex Job Racing. This is the first time a factory backed Lotus
has participated in the Series and they couldn’t have chosen a
better partner; Alex Job Racing is the longest competing and most
successful team in the American Le Mans Series. IndyCar veteran
Townsend Bell and ALMS Founders Cup winner Bill Sweedler are the
team’s drivers.
The Mazda MX-5 Cup, Unlimited Racing Championship, Cooper Tires
Prototype Lites powered by Mazda, Cadillac Pirelli World
Challenge and IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama support races
provide on-track activity throughout the weekend. Off-track

The Coalition of Monterey County Chambers of Commerce held a
special reception February 16 to present Gill Campbell,
CEO/general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the 2012
Economic Leadership Award. The recognition was for Campbell’s
dedicated leadership in economic development and contribution of
substantial resources to chambers of commerce throughout the
Monterey county region.
America’s Car Museum (ACM) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (MRLS)
have entered into a reciprocal marketing agreement that provides
advertising and display opportunities for the museum during
events at the raceway in Monterey, Calif., with similar
opportunities for MRLS at the new automotive museum opening in
Tacoma, Wash. in June.
Under the five-year agreement, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will
become the “Official Race Track of America’s Car Museum,”

The fourth annual Race ‘N’ Rod Nationals presented by Mothers,
Saturday, September 8th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature a

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was among six local businesses honored
