The January 16th Twilight Cycling, presented by Rabobank, will
benefit Cub Scout Pack 13 of Salinas. Scouts (boys and girls) as
well as area bicyclists who are invited to experience the thrill
of the 11-turn, 2.238-mile world famous race track that is
normally reserved for motorcycles and race cars.
Activities will start at 4 p.m. when the race track and paddock
are open to all Scouts for obstacle course drills and short races
for one hour. From 5-7 p.m. it is open track for all participants
(Scouts, bike clubs and individuals).
In a desire to help raise the community’s spirits this holiday
season, the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey
Peninsula (SCRAMP), operators of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, is
again partnering with the Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula in
hosting the annual holiday food and toy drive.

The Yamaha Champions Riding School (YCRS), based at Miller
Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, will be bringing their renowned
high-performance motorcycle riding training program to
California’s Monterey Peninsula in 2013.
YCRS will present five two-day schools at Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca: January 24-25; February 25-26; March 11-12; March 28-29 and
April 10-11.

Next year’s race schedule for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is
shaping up to be the best season ever for motorcycle race fans
with organizers announcing today that the eni FIM Superbike World
Championship will be joining the MotoGP World Championship on the
2013 calendar. World Superbike will take place September 27-29,
2013 and is the series’ only U.S. appearance.
Recurrent Technologies, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s official
technology provider, recently completed Phase Two of a
comprehensive network upgrade that consisted of a failover
capable Cisco-powered network.
Ending weeks of speculation, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd announced
today that Valentino Rossi has signed on to ride for the Yamaha
Factory Racing MotoGP™ team for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Rossi won four of his seven MotoGP™ World Champion titles while
with Yamaha. He will once again join teammate and rival, current
MotoGP™ Championship points leader and 2010 World Champion, Jorge
Lorenzo in the Yamaha garage.

LE MANS, FRANCE – Mazda Motorsports today announced that
it will sell racing versions of its new SKYACTIV-D CLEAN DIESEL
engines to teams competing in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2)
class of racing’s greatest endurance challenge – the 24 Hours of
Le Mans. The Le Mans engine program will make its debut at
the 2013 running of the race. Mazda was the first – and to
this day, remains the only – Asian manufacturer to score an
overall win at the race, in 1991.
Looking for a unique way to do some laps around the famed Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca track? Take to the sky for a bird’s eye view
of the race action with Specialized Helicopters. During the Red
Bull U.S. Grand Prix featuring the MotoGP World Championship July
27-29, helicopter rides will be available for just $40 per person
or $100 for three passengers.
This amazing event is June 14 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Cost is $10.00
per person and includes a tri-tip dinner, raffle entry, and no
host cash bar. A limited number of VIP Suite tickets available
for guests. Cost is an additional $10.00 and includes wine,
tequila tasting, and fresh baked goods.
Skip Barber Racing School will also be offering courtesy hot laps

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced it has
extended its naming rights agreement for Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca with the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey
Peninsula (SCRAMP) for another five years. The agreement was
ratified by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors and extends
the two organizations’ relationship, which began in 2001, through
2016. The world-famous Monterey, Calif., facility is home to one
of the finest natural road-racing courses in the world, and has
been a mainstay of professional auto and motorcycle racing since
1957.
Kathryn Hayworth plans to be a fixture in the lobby of the
Embassy Suites the next two weekends. She’ll be registering
racing teams Thursday through Sunday as they check in at the

motorcycles. The ride will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Helmets are
required and the cost is $10 per rider.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s Car Corral experience includes two
three-day general admission and paddock tickets with open
grandstand seating, two souvenir programs and exclusive premium

The series allows owners and gentleman drivers seeking to sharpen
their skills to compete against each other on some of the finest

Ferrari 458s will compete against their predecessor the F430s in
the Ferrari Challenge. There will also be separate 599XX and FXX

Championship returns to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for its eighth
consecutive year with a new sponsor, Law Tigers, offering free
helmet and leather check tents for visiting fans. Staffed and
secured, the tents will be prominently located at key motorcycle
parking lots.
Elena Myers claims second career AMA victory, first female winner
at Daytona.
Elena Myers, who rode Suzuki’s GSV-R bike on the eve of last
year’s Indianapolis Grand Prix, took another small step towards
her dream of becoming the first female MotoGP rider by making
history at Daytona.
“Any girl in MotoGP would be good, but I hope I’m the first,”
said Myers after the Indianapolis appearance. “That’s my goal,
and I’m trying hard every day to get there.”
Dempsey Racing principals and co-drivers Patrick Dempsey and Joe
Foster confirmed today the team’s entry into the American Le Mans
Series (ALMS) P2 division with a partial schedule of races this
year, fulltime competition in future seasons, and a return to the
24 Hours of Le Mans, possibly as soon as 2013.
At its 49th annual Awards Dinner March 7 at the Blackhawk Auto
Museum in Danville, Ca. the Motor Sports Press Association
honored Mike and Kathy Hayworth with the Outstanding Contribution
to Motorsports Award.
The Strider Adventure Zone will return to family friendly Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca during the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix on July
27 to 29. For budding young cyclists who love having fun with a
competitive edge, Strider Adventure Zone will host the Strider
Cup race on Sunday, July 29.
Strider makes no-pedal bikes that help toddlers learn balance and
coordination before pedaling, which develops confidence and bike
handling skills. Children from 18 months to five years of age
will have a chance to experience riding at the Strider Adventure
Zone.
From the 14-year-old who snuck into a Sports Car Racing
Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) volunteer barbecue
to the well-respected race car driver he is today, Townsend Bell,
will be a welcome sight as he returns to his home track at the
American Le Mans Monterey, presented by Patrón May 11-12, 2012.
Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies were the
star guests this afternoon for the ‘First Ever’ International
MotoXpo Show in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The MotoGP riders
arrived in Malaysia early for the second of the two Sepang tests
to attend the event as guests of Hong Leong Yamaha Motor.
MONTEREY, Calif., February 23, 2012 – Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
kicks off its 55th season with the American Le Mans Monterey,
presented by Patrón, an exhilarating six hour endurance race, May
11-12.
Featuring multiple classes of high-tech sports cars competing
together, the American Le Mans Series sees constant passing and
on-track battles throughout each race. The six hour endurance
race takes competitors from daylight, to dusk and into the
darkness, pushing drivers’ and crews’ mental and physical
abilities.
The 2011 American Le Mans Series Championship was secured, with
one race to go, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last fall by Dyson
Racing who won the LMP1 Drivers and Team Championships. At that
same race Mazda won the Engine Manufacturer title and Dunlop the
Tire Championship. Dyson Racing wrapped up the Michelin Green X
Challenge championship for the year at the season-ending Petit Le
Mans.
A notable new entry to the 2012 American Le Mans Series is Lotus
Alex Job Racing. This is the first time a factory backed Lotus
has participated in the Series and they couldn’t have chosen a
better partner; Alex Job Racing is the longest competing and most
successful team in the American Le Mans Series. IndyCar veteran
Townsend Bell and ALMS Founders Cup winner Bill Sweedler are the
team’s drivers.
The Mazda MX-5 Cup, Unlimited Racing Championship, Cooper Tires
Prototype Lites powered by Mazda, Cadillac Pirelli World
Challenge and IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama support races
provide on-track activity throughout the weekend. Off-track
offerings include driver autograph sessions, grid walk, race
simulators, tech talks, and of course, plenty of food, beer, wine
and Patrón.
Advance purchase general admission is $60 for a two day pass.
Children 12 and under are free with a paying adult. There is free

The Coalition of Monterey County Chambers of Commerce held a
special reception February 16 to present Gill Campbell,
CEO/general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the 2012
Economic Leadership Award. The recognition was for Campbell’s
dedicated leadership in economic development and contribution of
substantial resources to chambers of commerce throughout the
Monterey county region.
America’s Car Museum (ACM) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (MRLS)
have entered into a reciprocal marketing agreement that provides
advertising and display opportunities for the museum during
events at the raceway in Monterey, Calif., with similar
opportunities for MRLS at the new automotive museum opening in
Tacoma, Wash. in June.
Under the five-year agreement, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will
become the “Official Race Track of America’s Car Museum,”
receiving advertising opportunities in museum publications and
access to ACM’s Club Auto satellite facilities.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was among six local businesses honored
by the Monterey County Business Council at its 16th Anniversary
Gala held this past Saturday. The world renowned race track

Following a successful 2011 season with ABC/ESPN which resulted
in a double-digit increase in audience size, the American Le Mans

broadcast schedule for the 2012 season, highlighted by four live

The Yamaha Factory Racing Team completed the first test of the
2012 season at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
