The field for this year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is
taking shape as 533 historic race cars have been initially
accepted for the August 16-18 event. The Governing Committee has
the option of accepting an additional 17 cars to complete the
grid for the annual race at Mazda Raceway Laquna Seca.
“What a joyous moment it is to get the notification that my car
and I have been accepted to the event,” said Pen Pendelton of Los
Angeles, Calif., who will be driving a 1961 Alsbury Special. “It
is really an honor to be a part of something so special.”
Modest, outspoken, proud, enthusiastic and a wicked sense of
humor, Phil Remington was a highly respected fabricator, engineer
and chief tinkerer who could make anything go faster.
In a desire to help raise the community’s spirits this holiday
season, the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey
Peninsula (SCRAMP), operators of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, is
again partnering with the Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula in
hosting the annual holiday food and toy drive.
Mazda Raceway’s popular monthly twilight cycling rides allow
cyclists of all ages and skills to experience the excitement of
pedaling the challenging 11-turn, 2.238-mile race track. The ride
is highlighted by the legendary Corkscrew that drops an
equivalent of 5 1/2 stories through a series of turns.
When: 5 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14
Sponsored by Rabobank, the cost is just $10 per rider. And please
note that helmets are required.
If plunging down a five and a half story drop on two wheels
sounds like a good time, then you will want to attend one of the
monthly Twilight Cycling rides, presented by Rabobank at Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca.
The family and enthusiast oriented Twilight Rides evenings are
open to all levels of cyclists who are looking for a world-class
challenge. No matter your ability, all riders can experience the
thrill of being on the 11-turn, 2.238-mile world famous race
track that is normally reserved for motorcycles and race
cars.
Chevrolet Corvette will be the featured marque next August at the
2013 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, where historic race cars
annually come to the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track to relive
the sights, sounds and smells of racing days gone by
Corvette’s recognition in Monterey, Calif., will come during its
60th anniversary model year, and a large contingent of Corvette
racers is expected representing each of the car’s six generations
in competition. Corvette also was the featured marque in 2002.
Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo delivered a signature
scorching performance this afternoon to take his fourth
consecutive Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca pole position start ahead
of tomorrow’s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.
LE MANS, FRANCE – Mazda Motorsports today announced that
it will sell racing versions of its new SKYACTIV-D CLEAN DIESEL
engines to teams competing in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2)
class of racing’s greatest endurance challenge – the 24 Hours of
Le Mans. The Le Mans engine program will make its debut at
the 2013 running of the race. Mazda was the first – and to
this day, remains the only – Asian manufacturer to score an
overall win at the race, in 1991.
The new Ferrari Corse Clienti racing season will get under way on
18 March at the Japanese circuit of Suzuka with the year’s first
Ferrari Racing Days. This special event will not only host the
inaugural round of the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific, but offer
the Asian public the chance to see together on track the main
non-competitive activities offered by the Maranello company,
among them the exclusive XX and F1 Clienti programmes.
The Yamaha Factory Racing Team completed the first test of the
2012 season at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
Riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies spent the three track days
working to develop the base set up of the 1000cc YZR-M1 ahead of
the second Sepang test in one month’s time.
