The partnership between the County of Monterey and Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) continues to reap benefits for visitors enjoying the Laguna Seca Recreation Area. Eyes from around the world will be tuning in to watch this week’s Motul FIM Superbike World Championship GEICO U.S. Round where 21 riders compete for valuable world championship points on their lone appearance in North America. An additional 94 riders will swell the paddock who are competing in three classes of the MotoAmerica Honda Championship of the Monterey Peninsula.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the entire Laguna Seca Recreation Area are experiencing rapid improvements ahead of schedule. The Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula’s (SCRAMP) two biggest events, the Superbike World Championship July 7-9 and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Aug. 17-20, are just around the corner and the facility will be looking its best in many years.
The rich and storied history of then-named Laguna Seca Raceway officially began November 9, 1957 with the inaugural race called the Eighth Annual Pebble Beach Road Races. This was a continuation of the racing through the forest at nearby Pebble Beach that began in 1950 and ended six years later.
The year-long 60th anniversary celebration of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca kicks off with a new logo that bridges the past and present of the iconic circuit.
The new logo will be used throughout Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s diamond anniversary. It features elements of the original 1957 design such as the sports car and the Cypress tree landmark. The number 60 is inscribed on the race car, and the shape of the famed 11-turn raceway is incorporated prominently in the text.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca announced that the Monterey County Hospitality Association (MCHA) has recommended the partnership between International Speedway Corporation (ISC) and the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) to earn the concession agreement for its management and that of the Laguna Seca Recreation Area.
The recommendation letter, signed by Theodore Balestreri II, Chair, MCHA, was sent Aug. 10 to the Honorable Jane Parker, Chair, Monterey County Board of Supervisors.

World Champion Peter Sagan (SVK) of Tinkoff has claimed his 15th all-time Amgen Tour of California stage win after a long and hilly ride northward on one of the most scenic and iconic stretches of California roadway, Highway 1, through Monterey County.
“It was hard, but good,” said Sagan, when asked about today’s stage. “I’m very happy for my other teammates, and I’m very happy to have won.”

A madness similar to that which takes over university campuses and media worldwide every March has overtaken Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the same 31-day period. This madness, though, is of the two- and four-wheeled varieties instead of that of the round ball and oversized gym shorts.
The Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), which built Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 1957 and has operated the world renowned facility on behalf of the County of Monterey since 1974, has completed a reorganization of its overall business structure through the creation of a board of governors.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has made a charitable donation of Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) monthly passes worth $43,700 to the Rancho Cielo Youth Campus in Salinas.
The 460 Monterey-Salinas Transit 31-Day Basic cards are each worth $95. The passes are the result of a previous decades-long partnership between Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and MST to provide transit services to alleviate highway traffic congestion on major event race days through the use of public transportation.

CEO and General Manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Gill Campbell has received the second of three prestigious honors for her work in the community and the impact that Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has throughout the Monterey Bay community.

Officials from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Sports Car Club of America confirmed today the dates of the 2014 SCCA National Championship Runoffs®, October 6-12, 2014.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will become the seventh track to host the National Championship event in the Runoffs’ 50-year history, and marks the return of the Runoffs to the West Coast for the first time since the now-closed Riverside International Raceway in 1968.

LE MANS, FRANCE – Mazda Motorsports today announced that it will sell racing versions of its new SKYACTIV-D CLEAN DIESEL engines to teams competing in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class of racing’s greatest endurance challenge – the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Le Mans engine program will make its debut at the 2013 running of the race. The Yamaha Factory Racing Team completed the first test of the 2012 season at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. Riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies spent the three track days working to develop the base set up of the 1000cc YZR-M1 ahead of the second Sepang test in one month’s time.
