The roaring sounds of motorcycle engines will meet the soothing sounds of the Caribbean this year, as race fans attending the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be treated to the reggae-styling of The Original Wailers.
The Original Wailers will be performing on Saturday, July 20 at 7 p.m. on the GE Capital Financial Stage in the Yamaha Marketplace at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The concert is the highlighted concluding act after a full day of motorcycle racing action. The concert is free to all ticketed Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix visitors.
Kicking off the 2013 race season, Mazda North American Operations has delivered a fleet of 15 special liveried 2014 Mazda6 sedans, CX-5 sport utility vehicles and powerful MX-5 sports cars to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Since Mazda became title sponsor of the iconic motorsports and events facility in 2006, located in the destination-rich Monterey Peninsula, Mazda has had a prolific presence. The $60 car corral experience includes a three-day general admission and paddock ticket with open grandstand seating, a souvenir program and exclusive premium parking with other vehicles of the same brand – BMW, Audi, Mini Cooper, Porsche, Corvette or Mazda.
Tight competition among a variety of American and international manufacturers has become a trademark of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series’ GT class, a fast-paced fact underscored by last Saturday’s Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park.
When the two-hour, 45-minute battle was complete in the second race of the season, three different manufacturers were represented on the GT podium. Five manufacturers – Mazda, Audi, Porsche, BMW and Chevrolet – shared the top six positions. The Barber field overall featured seven manufacturers with eight different models.
Responding to burgeoning interest from a variety of manufacturers, GRAND-AM Road Racing today announced plans to add a third class to compete in the Rolex Sports Car Series, beginning with the 2013 season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona.
The new class, to be called “GX,” will join the series’ headlining Daytona Prototype (DP) and the production-based Grand Touring (GT) classes. The models – and some manufacturers – will be unique to GX.
The GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series looks to continue making history in 2012. Coming off a milestone event – GRAND-AM’s first competition at storied Indianapolis Motor Speedway – the series is set to visit four of North America’s most historic road circuits to crown its 2012 champions.

Alex Gurney edged Scott Pruett for the fastest lap with minutes remaining in Friday’s second practice for the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Continental Tire Sports Car Festival Powered by Mazda at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The two finished a fraction of a second apart – Gurney winning – in last year’s Daytona Prototype event at the 2.238-mile, 11-turn circuit.
