Historic Bike Themed Twilight Ride Scheduled for August 10

Cyclists Encouraged to Bring Out Their Clunkers and Classic Roadies

The Monterey Off Road Cycling Association is gearing up for the peninsula’s biggest event of the year, Classic Car Week, by hosting a historic bicycle-themed twilight ride Wednesday, August 10 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Vintage vehicles will be arriving for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion as the cyclists take to the track to experience the thrill of pedaling Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, including the challenging 300-foot climb and awe-inspiring descent down the world-famous Corkscrew. The rides/races are always informal and the 11 turn 2.238 mile course is open to all levels of cyclists. In addition to the traditional multi-lap amateur race, there will be a special one lap race for those on “historic” bikes, along with a “best in show” contest. Helmets are required and the cost is $10 per rider.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was established in 1957. The world-renowned raceway has been operated since its inception by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), a not-for-profit 501c(4) corporation. Each race season, SCRAMP donates its net proceeds to the volunteer groups that help put on the races.

Additional 2011 Twilight Rides are scheduled for September 14, October 19, November 16 and December 7.
