A spectacular three-day crowd of 61,052 filled the hills and grandstands of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to witness some of the closest and most exciting motorcycle racing ever on the 11-turn 2.238-mile road course during the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round featuring the MotoAmerica Honda Superbike Showdown of California.

Kawasaki Racing Team’s Tom Sykes took victory in WorldSBK Race 2, heading the Ducati duo of Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies over the line in a race that would have been impossible to script.

Rea Earns First Mazda Raceway Victory in Race 1 of WorldSBK
Elias takes Superpole in MotoAmerica Superbike

Current Superbike World Championship point leader and reigning champion Jonathan Rea swapped the lead back and forth with Kawasaki Racing Team teammate and Superpole 1 winner Tom Sykes before taking over for good with five laps remaining for his first WorldSBK victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Rea beat his teammate to the finish line by 0.819-of-a-second. The victory came before thousands of enthusiastic fans who filled the paddock, hillsides and grandstands under sun-drenched California skies.

Paddock Show provides Fans with Unparalleled Access to Riders

While the on-track action is always hot and fast, the World Superbike Paddock Show keeps the adrenaline high off-track too. Fans will find Meet and Greets and autograph sessions, chat shows with the fastest men of the day, and even live commentary on most practice, qualifying and Race sessions.

An autograph session at 4:00 on Friday sees all WorldSBK riders head to the Paddock Show for an opportunity to come face to face with the fans, ahead of a paddock party that begins at 4:30.

Honda World Superbike Team rider Nicky Hayden crossed the line in Sepang on Sunday to take his first ever win in World Superbike. The American, a rookie in the class, took off from the pack in a supreme display of speed and control in difficult conditions. Ducati’s Davide Giugliano came home second after a late charge, ahead of reigning Champion Jonathan Rea.

2016 Marks 45th Season of Championship Motorcycle Racing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca began its now legendary status as an iconic motorcycle racing venue when Cal Rayburn and his No. 14 Harley-Davidson fended off the likes of Smart, Nixon, Romero, Carruthers, Scott, Brelsford, Hately and others to win the AMA-sanctioned Kawasaki Superbike International on July 23, 1972. 

It was the start to what’s grown into nearly a half-century of the ultimate in motorcycle road racing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Champion Of Series Within A Series To Win A Honda Civic

The MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Race Series will feature a new twist in 2016: The Honda Superbike Showdown, a three-race series within the Superbike Championship that will crown a champion and ultimately award the winner with a 2016 Honda Civic automobile.

The Honda Superbike Showdown will take place at three of the MotoAmerica Series: Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin (June 3-5); Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama (June 11-12); and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California (July 8-10).

MotoAmerica Mourns Losses In Racing Accident

A chain-reaction, multi-bike incident on the first lap of today’s second MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000 race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has resulted in the deaths of two competitors.   

Bernat Martinez, of Alberic, Valencia, Spain, was transported from the raceway by ambulance to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) in Monterey, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was 35.

Chaz Davies Turns Fastest Lap on Day 1 of Superbike World Championship

The early morning marine layer quickly gave way to bright sunshine on the surrounding hills and 2.238-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for a full day of Superbike World Championship Free Practice sessions 1 and 2. And at the end of the day, Aruba.IT Racing-Ducati SBK Team’s Chaz Davies sat atop with the fastest time of the day recorded in Free Practice 2.

World Superbike Championship Racing Excites Crowds and Teams
Top 2 split by 0.051s in first European race of the year

In the opening 18-lap encounter at MotorLand Aragon, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) claimed his fourth win of the season, equaling his previous best for number of victories in a year in just five starts. The Ulsterman came out on top at the end of an enthralling last lap, which saw him lose the lead only to retake it on the final corner from fellow Briton Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Superbike Team) who finished second, missing out the victory by a scant 0.051s.

Fans Descend on Monterey for Superbike World Championship Racing Weekend; Attendance up 20% over 2013

Motorcycle and road racing fans soaked in the action under sunny skies at the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend. The international racing series’ only U.S. stop attracted 49,408 people, which is 20 percent more than last year’s crowd of 41,175.

Tom Sykes Blazes New World Superbike Track Record

Kawasaki Racing Team’s Tom Sykes (United Kingdom) scorched the 2.238-mile circuit today and set a new World Superbike track record.

Sykes’ record-setting run of 1′21.811 came in the final minutes of the Tissot Superpole No. 2 session of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round.

For comparison, the circuit motorcycle record is held by Dani Pedrosa who ran a 1′21.229 lap during the 2012 MotoGP race.

Time is running out to purchase the special Cruising Special for the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round July 11-13.

There are two options available – with Motorcycle Parking is $170 per person and Includes 3-day General Admission, Paddock Pass, reserved grandstand seat at Turn 4 or Turn 11 and a parking pass that is valid for one motorcycle.

A similar pass is also available without parking for $120 per person that includes 3-Day General Admission, Paddock Pass and a reserved grandstand seat at Turn 4 or Turn 11.

Melandri and BMW leave it late to head qualifying

The second qualifying session lived up to expectations as the WSBK riders did their best to finish inside the top 15, to guarantee themselves a spot for tomorrow morning’s Tissot-Superpole. Despite the temperature dropping considerably throughout the 1-hour session, lap-times significantly improved as the leading two riders were even able to break into the 1’23s barrier.
