Riders for Health “Day of Stars” raises nearly $40,000

Riders for Health, the official charity of MotoGP, raised nearly $40,000 yesterday at its annual fundraiser at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey. This unique, day-long event hosted by grand prix legend and co-founder of Riders for Health, Randy Mamola, began with a beautiful motorcycle tour of Carmel Valley and stop at the Robert Talbott winery.

After returning to the Mazda Raceway for catered lunch and conversation with special guests Wayne Rainey and Kenny Roberts. Other highlights of the day included a pit and paddock tour led by Mamola where participants shook hands with Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama, watched Casey Stoner´s bike being warmed up, and had their photos taken with Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi. The afternoon included parade laps of the famous Mazda Raceway circuit led by Mamola.

Day of Stars concluded with an amazing live auction of MotoGP memorabilia. Many MotoGP riders were on hand to autograph truly unique items at this auction which is open to the public and is free admission.  Auction items included leathers of Kenny Roberts and of Wayne Rainey, a Tissot watch signed by riders, a helmet signed by Rossi, and a Suzuki Paddock Experience with a garage tour and opportunity to meet the team.  All the proceeds go to Riders for Health.

Special thanks goes to DORNA, MotoGP, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Robert Talbott, past and present MotoGP riders who attended, and all the volunteers who made the event a success. Support from the motorcycle community in the USA helps Riders for Health to save lives. In 2010, supporters at motorcycling events across the world raised hundreds-of-thousands of dollars for Riders helping them to provide access to health care for millions for people in Africa.
