May Twilight Rides to Promote National Bike Month
In honor of National Bike Month, dust off your bike helmet, shine up your bicycle, grab the kids and head out to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for a few laps around the world famous track with two Twilight Cycle Rides scheduled for the month of May!
The first Twilight Ride of the month is in the midst of the 17th Annual Monterey County Bike Week (May 9-15) and is hosted by Rabobank, Joselyns Bicycles and the Transportation Agency of Monterey County. Held Wednesday, May 11 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m, there will be races throughout the evening with a children’s race starting at 6 p.m. followed by the adult races – group 1 at 6:15 p.m. and group 2 at 6:30 p.m. The rides/races are always informal and the track is open to all levels of cyclists. The cost is $10 per rider.
As an additional incentive for families, Rabobank will be giving away free helmets to the first 100 children signing in at the event.
Cyclists not only get to experience the thrill of riding Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, but will share the track with Rabobank’s Cycling Team’s 11-time Dutch national cycling champion Lars Boom, retired cycling star Koos Moerenhout and cycling legend Hennie Kuiper.
The second Twilight Ride will have the same hours and cost and is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, May 18 and will be hosted by the Naval Post Graduate School Cycling Club.
“We have a challenging 11 turn 2.238 mile course for competitive cyclists,” said Ann Bixler, vice president event operations of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “But the raceway also provides a safe and relaxed atmosphere for families to get out and enjoy a ride together as well.”
Additional 2011 Twilight Rides are scheduled for June 15, July 20, August 10, September 14, October 19, November 16 and December 7.
