GRAND-AM Road Racing Brings Out the Stars
Names to Know at the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival, powered by Mazda
What does a Hollywood star; hometown boy; professional athlete and country music icon have in common? They, and many other well-known names, all have an interest in the outcome of this weekend’s Continental Tire Sports Car Festival, powered by Mazda (Sept. 7-9) at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Patrick Dempsey – star of Grey’s Anatomy and dozens of popular movies, Dempsey’s busy Hollywood “day job” schedule means his participation in any race can come down to the last minute, but he is hopeful of competing at Mazda Raceway for the second time this year. Dempsey Racing will field two cars, the No. 40 and the No. 41 Mazda RX-8 GT’s in the Rolex Sports Car Series.
CJ Wilson Racing – after three games against the nearby Oakland A’s, California Angel pitcher and team owner CJ Wilson has an off day and may come out to the race track to support to his two car team, the No. 03 and No. 04 Mazda MX-5’s, competing in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
Shelby Blackstock – with mom Reba McEntire routing him on, Blackstock will compete in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in the #51 Boss 302R Mustang with Roush Performance.
Scott Pruett – The 10-time road racing champion and his co-pilot Memo Rojas are looking to capture a fourth GRAND-AM championship.
Jonathan Bomarito – Monterey native, Bomarito, returns to his home track after a win at Barber Motorsports and three other podium appearances so far this year. Local boy makes good.
Sébastien Bourdais – currently competing in IndyCar and jumping to GRAND-AM this weekend, Bourdais, won four successive championships in the former Champ Car World Series.
