Global Tuner Grand Prix Brings the Heat
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s Season Finale Event
The Global Tuner Grand Prix (GTGP) on October 22-24, 2010 is the only event of its kind in North America where both the best tuners and racers in the world will compete around this legendary circuit, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The GTGP is the season finale for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and features the Global Tuner Grand Prix, Challenge Race, Pirelli Drivers Cup and historic stock car races.
Here is a brief overview of each class competing in the GTGP:
GTGP Street Class
This class is comprised of street-legal road cars that run on street tires. Vehicle must be legal for road use and have complete interiors. This is a Time Attack/Time Trial competition where competitors are battling for the fastest lap time. The cars are on track at the same time. The competition includes a warm-up lap, then full speed for one lap and ends with a cool down lap.
GTGP Tuner Class
Production based street cars with an emphasis on tuners or modified cars that are street legal. Expect to see highly modified street cars in this class built by top tuners from around the world. The format is the same as the GTGP Street class and Street Class cars are eligible to compete in this category.
GTGP Unlimited Class
These are GT and touring type race cars and the class includes highly modified street cars that have a completely stripped interior. This would include purpose built Time Attack cars.
The GTGP Challenge is a 50-minute race from a rolling start where the quickest car will place on the podium. The field will feature a wide range of vehicles from Porsche Cup cars, to Corvettes, Dodge Vipers, Nissan Skyline, Mitsubishi Evos, Subaru WRX STI and BMW M3s.
Pirelli Drivers Cup USA
The 2010 Drivers Cup USA Racing Series features Porsche 996 and 997 GT3 Cup Cars and is open to amateur and club drivers only.
Historic stock cars
These historic stock cars with Winston Cup racing history are configured and presented in the style and year that they were raced. The cars will be from 1985- 2005 and have upwards of 850 HP.
Additional activities include an automotive swap meet in the Yamaha Marketplace on Saturday, October 23 and an open grid for fans on Sunday, October 24 before the GTGP Challenge race.
Tickets are $10 for Friday and $15 per day for Saturday and Sunday or $35 for a 3-day pass. Children 12 and under are free for general admission and parking is complimentary.
