2011 American Le Mans Series Monterey Presented by Patron Returns September 16-18
The Event Returns to Its Traditional Fall Date
The 2011 American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patrón event returns to its traditional fall schedule on September 16-18, 2011 with a four hour endurance race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
“Our fans spoke and we listened,” said Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “It was unanimous to return this race to its heritage as the circuit has a rich history of sports car competition dating back to its earliest days in the fall. We started racing here with Carroll Shelby, Stirling Moss, Phil Hill, Dan Gurney, and Sir Jack Brabham and it great to have David Brabham and other renowned, current sports car racers racing on the same circuit.”
“We feel confident that racing in Monterey in the fall will be a positive for all involved with record-breaking crowds and weather that will make us all thankful,” said Scott Atherton, American Le Mans Series President and CEO. “It’s where it belongs for another Race into the Darkness and we look forward to returning to Monterey in September.”
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is one of four race tracks to have played host to the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón event in all 13 seasons. The world-renowned circuit is part of a familiar mix of high-profile street circuits and North America’s best permanent road courses that comprise the 2011 season for the race series.
The 2010 race was a thriller in the truest sense. There were four different overall leaders with eight leaders in GT alone. David Brabham, Simon Pagenaud and Marino Franchitti scored an exhausting victory in the LMP class in the epic six-hour race. In the GT class, Patrick Long took the lead for good on a restart with eight minutes left to win by 0.365. He and Jörg Bergmeister won at Mazda Raceway for the second straight season. Long passed Joey Hand on the inside of Turn 11 just as the green flag flew.
All tickets will go on sale December 1, 2010. Premier/reserved camping and hospitality packages will be available by phone only at 1-800-327-7322.
