The tradition of memorable sports car racing will continue at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 2014 with the addition of America’s all-new premier sports car racing series: The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship May 2-4, 2014.

This entirely new series created by the merger between the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón retains the very popular format of races within a race, providing plenty of on-track action and constant passing. When the green flag waves for the Tudor United SportsCar Championship, there will be four different classes competing:

• Prototype (P) the flagship class, combining Grand-Am Daytona Prototype with the American Le Mans Series P2 prototype and DeltaWing cars;
• Prototype Challenge (PC) a spec class carried over directly from the American Le Mans Series, featuring Le Mans Prototype Challenge cars;
• GT Le Mans (GTLM): a continuation of the ALMS GT class, consisting of cars matching the Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s GTE specification; and
• GT Daytona (GTD): a class that combines the Grand-Am GT & GX classes with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars from the ALMS GTC class.

“Sports car racing is in Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s DNA ever since we opened in 1957,” says Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “It is our core mission and we are thrilled to be part of a select few race circuits that have been granted the privilege of hosting a race in its inaugural season. This will be the start of a new annual tradition.”

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has been operated since its inception by the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), a not-for-profit 501c(4) corporation. Each race season, SCRAMP donates its net proceeds to the volunteer groups that help put on the races. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will announce its full 2014 race season schedule in the coming weeks.
