More than $1,500 to Benefit the Food Bank for Monterey County

More than $1,500 and a barrel of donated food was raised this morning at the inaugural Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised go to the Food Bank for Monterey County.

The $1,500 raised enables the Food Bank to purchase $7,500 worth of food for families in need.

It was an international affair, as well. Visitors from Japan, the Netherlands, England and across the country who were visiting Monterey for the holiday weekend enjoyed the experience.

Volunteers from the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation Running Club were also on hand to assist “Turkey Trot” participants, with the youngest being just 2.5 years old (and who walked the entire 2.238-mile course in 1 hour; 36 minutes!).
