April 12 Twilight Cycling is a Prelude to Sea Otter Classic
Ride hosted by Don Chapin Monterey Bay Racing Team

The fourth round of the ninth season of Twilight Cycling rides at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will take place on Wednesday, April 12. The monthly ride that is open to riders of all ages and skill levels gives riders a chance to take to the track just over a week in advance of the world’s premier cycling festival, the Sea Otter Classic held April 20-23.
Participants are allowed to ride on the iconic 11-turn, 2.238-mile course of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The evening of two-wheeled fun and exercise will take place at the Laguna Seca Recreation Area. Twilight Cycling is one of the many community service-oriented programs that the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca conduct throughout the year.
The April 12 ride is scheduled to take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m and will be hosted by the Don Chapin Monterey Bay Racing Team. A three-lap race will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monterey Bay Racing Team was formed in 2005 by a handful of cyclists interested in increasing local participation of bicycle racing in one of the most picturesque areas in the world, the Monterey Bay area of California. Their mission is to promote the sport of cycling and to advocate safe bicycling practices on all levels of the activity.
There is a $10 entry fee per rider and helmets are required to participate. The host will serve BBQ and beverages. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca partners Bay Bikes will be on hand with rental bikes, helmets, and to provide maintenance if needed.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is the perfect place to train hard, ride for fun or do a little of both. Traffic flow is in one direction and 100 percent bicycles. There’s the 180 feet of overall elevation change to test your stamina and the 18 percent downhill grade at Turn 8A, and overall 109-foot drop between Turns 8 and 9, to test your determination. Throw in the spectacular rural Monterey County landscape and you have the perfect recipe for a great early evening of fun and exercise.
There will be two rides in May, both hosted by Bay Bikes, that differ from the traditional Wednesday time slot. The May 12 ride occurs on Friday during the week of the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca 2017 major season opener, the Ferrari Challenge (May 12-14), and the May 18 ride is on the Thursday preceding the inaugural Spring Classic (May 19-21).
