Amgen Tour of California Takes Center Stage Before Round 5 of Twilight Cycling
Hosted by Bay Bikes May 18

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca provides many opportunities for race car and motorcycle enthusiasts to test their skills on the same track as their professional heroes. Road cycling enthusiasts will have the same opportunity May 18 to follow in the narrow tire tracks of their professional racing heroes during the monthly Twilight Cycling ride.

The finish of Stage 4 of the Amgen Tour of California will take place at approximately 3:45 p.m. on the front straight of Mazda Raceway’s 2.238-mile road course. It will be the conclusion of a 133.6-mile ride that will begin in Morro Bay at 10:10 a.m. that morning. It will be a unique opportunity to see many of the world’s top cyclists compete for victory on the same track where many of the world’s greatest race car drivers and motorcycle racers have done the same since 1957.

Then at 5:30 p.m., immediately following the post-race festivities, local cyclists and enthusiasts will take to the track for the monthly two-hour ride hosted by Bay Bikes. Requirements to participate in the Twilight Cycling event are a bike, a helmet and a $10 entry fee.

Bay Bikes will be on hand with Demo bikes and helmets, as well as provide minor maintenance. They will hold a coasting race on the track, host a BBQ for all participants in the paddock and have goody bags for the first 50 riders who register for the event. Bay Bikes will also conduct an in-store promotion to win an autographed Amgen Tour of California rider jersey.

Riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome for an evening of two-wheeled fun and exercise. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is the perfect place to train hard, ride for fun or do a little of both. There is the 180 feet of overall elevation change to test your stamina and the 18 percent downhill grade at Turn 8A, and overall 10-story drop between Turns 8 and 9, to test your determination. Throw in the spectacular rural Monterey County landscape, which is covered in green at this time of the year, and you have the perfect recipe for a great early evening of fun and exercise.
