The current reigning champion and points leader of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship clocked in 1’21.811, a new World Superbike best lap of the circuit, to claim the 23rd WSBK pole position of his career, his third in a row after the ones scored at Misano and Portimao.
Chaz Davies (Ducati Superbike Team) has set the fastest lap in the Free Practice combined times today at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 1′23.293s, edging second place Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia Racing Team) by only 21 thousandths of a second. The Welshman, who has raced here in three different championships (AMA, MotoGP and WSBK) has shown great speed and consistency on the opening day of action.
Three-time World Champion Wayne Rainey will meet fans and sign autographs at the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, U.S. Round presented by GEICO Motorcycle from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 12.
Rainey, a longtime supporter of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, will greet fans at the Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys exhibit in the Marketplace. Rainey won his three consecutive 500cc Grand Prix World Championships on a Yamaha in 1990, 1991 and 1992.

The streak of Chamber of Commerce conditions that blessed the first three rounds of the 13-race 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship continued today at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca where the fourth round of the championship was witnessed by an enthusiastic and large turnout of motorsports fans. The Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda staged the contest in a split format: up first were the 10 Prototype Challenge and 22 GT Daytona cars for a two-hour run on the 11 turn, 2.23 mile track, after which the 12 Prototype and 11 GT Le Mans cars had their turn.
The Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix, powered by Mazda attracted an enthusiastic group of fans to Monterey. The event featured the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and the racing did not disappoint.
