The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion will celebrate the rich 100-year history of Maserati, one of Italy’s iconic luxury sports car brands that throughout the century has been deeply rooted in racing. The celebration will be held August 14-17, 2014 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is a cornerstone of Monterey Peninsula’s Classic Car Week. Only around 550 vehicles will be accepted, based on the car’s authenticity, race provenance and period correctness. Nearly every decade of motorsports history will be represented in what is described as a museum springing to life.
The sounds of motorcycles will again roar through the central California hillsides as the eni FIM Superbike World Championship returns to Monterey July 11-13, 2014 for its only U.S. appearance.
“When World Superbike returned to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this season we agreed to a three year contract,” says Gill Campbell, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca CEO/general manager. “We were very pleased with the first year and look forward to building upon its success.”
We are delighted to announce that the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion has been shortlisted (named a finalist) in the “Motorsport Event of the Year” category by the International Historic Motoring Awards.
During Classic Car Week, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is reserved for three days of historic automobile racing while the rest of California’s Monterey Peninsula hosts a cornucopia of indulgent events for car lovers of every kind. This morning, before practice got underway for 500 cars entered in weekend racing at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion, a magical thing happened in the soft sunshine at the track, and it drove home—no pun intended—the reason this world-class race circuit exists.
Make no mistake about it.After three days of competition at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion, there were awards to be won, but they were not necessarily bestowed upon the actual winners in 16 different classes that took to the straights, curves, hairpin turns and challenging drops of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.In fact, Rolex Awards of Excellence were awarded in each race category to individual drivers who were determined by an independent panel to be “most deserving,” and the event’s highest “Spirit of Monterey” honor, which is coupled with the awarding of a specially engraved 18k stain
For thousands of historic car racing fans at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion, Saturday was the day to snag an autograph from Sir Jackie Stewart, and, if particularly lucky, also catch a glimpse of other driving legends mingling with the crowds. Sir Jackie, the British former Formula 1 driver from Scotland who has won three World Championships, participated in the event as a Rolex Testimonee and special guest, while other motor sports luminaries came with no official agenda, just one of relishing the best moments that today’s activities at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca had to offer.
There are Corvettes, and then there are The Corvettes. Recognizing the power, performance and durability that has made Corvette America’s beloved sports car, Chevrolet has assembled a collection of Corvettes that have remarkable pedigrees for a special exhibition at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion August 16-18. The annual event on the Monterey Peninsula this year celebrates the rich 60-year history of the Chevrolet Corvette, widely hailed as America’s Sports Car.
