Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) and Cessna Aircraft Company announced an addition to their sponsorship by fielding a second Daytona Prototype (DP) in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, Sept. 8.
To say it’s crowded at the top would be the understatement of the 2013 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season as all eyes set their sights on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, September 7-8. Ten drivers representing five teams are within five points of the Daytona Prototype lead, which is unprecedented in DP history.
On Saturday, September 7 the Race ‘N’ Rod Nationals, presented by Mothers, will celebrate its fifth successful year as part of the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival, powered by Mazda. This event is a favorite with fans and features some of the most beautiful cars and trucks ever built and customized.
For $35 Race ‘N’ Rod participants receive two Saturday race day general admission tickets, a T-shirt, Poker Run, Mothers Goody Bag and an on-track parade lap.

The $60 car corral experience includes a three-day general admission and paddock ticket with open grandstand seating, a souvenir program and exclusive premium parking with other vehicles of the same brand – BMW, Audi, Mini Cooper, Porsche, Corvette or Mazda.
Tight competition among a variety of American and international manufacturers has become a trademark of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series’ GT class, a fast-paced fact underscored by last Saturday’s Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park.
When the two-hour, 45-minute battle was complete in the second race of the season, three different manufacturers were represented on the GT podium. Five manufacturers – Mazda, Audi, Porsche, BMW and Chevrolet – shared the top six positions. The Barber field overall featured seven manufacturers with eight different models.
Responding to burgeoning interest from a variety of manufacturers, GRAND-AM Road Racing today announced plans to add a third class to compete in the Rolex Sports Car Series, beginning with the 2013 season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona.
The new class, to be called “GX,” will join the series’ headlining Daytona Prototype (DP) and the production-based Grand Touring (GT) classes. The models – and some manufacturers – will be unique to GX.
The GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series looks to continue making history in 2012. Coming off a milestone event – GRAND-AM’s first competition at storied Indianapolis Motor Speedway – the series is set to visit four of North America’s most historic road circuits to crown its 2012 champions.
