We’re only days away before some of the world’s premier athlete drivers arrive into Monterey for the six hour endurance race – the ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey, presented by Patron. As the season winds down, the race for overall top honors remains strong. This is Round eight of a nine race season.
The American Le Mans Series returns to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey, Presented by Patrón, bringing with it plenty of entertaining and interactive fan activities.
The American Le Mans Series features multiple classes of high-tech sports cars competing together in each race – a dynamic which offers constant passing and on-track battles throughout. The six hour endurance race on Saturday September 17 takes competitors from daylight, to dusk and into the darkness, pushing drivers’ and crews’ mental and physical abilities.
The championship chases in four classes of the American Le Mans Series are beginning to come more into focus. There are 55 points available to winners in the final two rounds – 25 points at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and 30 at Road Atlanta’s Petit Le Mans. The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón (ALMS) today announced its association with the Unlimited Racing Championship (URC) as the new “Heritage Series” for the 2012 season and beyond. The URC will feature identically built NuArt CanAm cars reminiscent of the “glory days” of the Canadian-American Challenge Cup (Can-Am) from the 1960-70s.
Today’s announcement was made on the first practice day of the ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey, presented by Patron, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Aston Martin Racing won its first overall race in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron, and Dyson Racing and BMW Team RLL each clinched driver and team championships on Saturday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Stefan Mucke, Adrian Fernandez and Harold Primat won the six-hour ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey presented by Patron in their Aston Martin-powered Lola coupe. The trio battled all day with Dyson Racing and Oryx Dyson Racing Lola-Mazdas, and Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing’s Lola-Aston Martin.
Anticipation for the first-ever West coast appearance of Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV October 14-16 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is running high. Complementing the more than 350 of the rarest Porsche race cars competing on the track will be an unprecedented field of 800-plus Porsches staged in the traditional car corral area. The demand is so swift and the support from the Porsche Club of America so positive that an additional parking area with limited space is being designated as another Porsche car corral.
Some of the world’s best drivers, riders and teams will descend on the Monterey Peninsula, to test their skills, earn championship points or just enjoy the historic Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit in 2012. The 55th race season of the world-renowned facility will feature the American Le Mans Series, Ferrari Racing Days, GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, Red Bull United States Grand Prix and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
By whatever means available, Porsche loyalists will find their way to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca October 14-16 for the Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV. The event makes its first West Coast appearance and brings together some of Porsche’s most historic racing models as well as featuring the North American debut of the 2012 Porsche 911.
More than 350 Porsche race cars have been accepted to participate in the on-track racing during Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV, October 14-16. They will tackle the historic 11-turn Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, where many of these same cars once turned a wheel in anger during their professional racing day.
By the late 1950s it was obvious to Porsche that the 356, which was the company’s sole product line since 1948, needed to be updated. Replacing it was necessary, yet perilous. Who knew that the eventual replacement for the 356, the 911, would surpass its predecessor in sales, longevity and glory? Or that it would be so fanatically cherished by its owners that Porsche hasn’t been allowed to replace it. Or that the Company would be introducing its latest iteration all the way in 2011?
