Officials from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Sports Car Club of America confirmed today the dates of the 2014 SCCA National Championship Runoffs®, October 6-12, 2014.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will become the seventh track to host the National Championship event in the Runoffs’ 50-year history, and marks the return of the Runoffs to the West Coast for the first time since the now-closed Riverside International Raceway in 1968.
The second qualifying session lived up to expectations as the WSBK riders did their best to finish inside the top 15, to guarantee themselves a spot for tomorrow morning’s Tissot-Superpole. Despite the temperature dropping considerably throughout the 1-hour session, lap-times significantly improved as the leading two riders were even able to break into the 1’23s barrier.
For 25 years, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has served as the “home” for Grand Prix motorcycle racing in the United States, having staged 15 world championship Grands Prix since 1988. Unfortunately, and in spite of loyal support from fans, sponsors and media, there will not be a 16th U.S. Grand Prix in 2014.
At this time, the U.S. is only able to support two MotoGP events. The support provided by the states of Texas and Indiana make it difficult for us, as a not-for-profit, to currently compete.
The battle for who will be crowned World Champion heats up next week in Monterey as riders prepare for their first visit to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, U.S. Round September 27-29.

Jordan Taylor and Wayne Taylor Racing once again held off three-time defending Rolex Series champions Chip Ganassi Racing to win Sunday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. With the victory, Taylor and co-driver Max Angelelli carry an eight-point lead (304-296) over the Ganassi duo of Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas heading into the season finale at Lime Rock Park.
