After this weekend’s race in Germany, the MotoGP World Championship returns to the Monterey Peninsula for the Red Bull United States Grand Prix. In just eight days, the field of international riders led by points leaders Casey Stoner (Australia), Jorge Lorenzo (Spain) and Andrea Dovizioso (Italy) descend on one of the most technically-demanding tracks on the MotoGP World Championship schedule — Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
There must be something in the warm California afternoon sun that suits Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo, who turned in the fastest lap of the two practice sessions at 1’22.056, just 0.141 ahead of Dani Pedrosa of the Repsol Honda Team. Casey Stoner, also of Repsol Honda Team, captured the fastest time in the morning session, circling the 2.238-mile circuit in 1’22.402.
The pursuit for the MotoGP World Championship title resumes today as riders take the green flag at 2 p.m. PST for the start of the Red Bull United States Grand Prix. More than 200 million viewers worldwide are expected to tune in for Round 10 of the MotoGP World Championship.
